Marysville man wins $100,000 in military vaccine lottery

The Daily Herald - 7/30/2021

MARYSVILLE — A Marysville veteran claimed a $100,000 cash prize Thursday in the state's vaccine lottery for current and former members of the military.

Carmen S. is a U.S. Army veteran who first volunteered for service in 1968, according to a Washington's Lottery news release, which did not include his last name. He served in both infantry and artillery roles during the Vietnam War.

"I volunteered for the Army to serve the good people of this country, and I'm very thankful that a program like this exists today to help recognize those who have served," he said in a statement. "I'm overwhelmed and still pinching myself that I won."

Any former or active military member who was vaccinated via Veterans Administration or National Guard facilities were automatically entered into "A Heroes Thanks." Others who received doses at a Department of Defense health care facility must use an online portal to opt in if they want to be entered into "A Heroes Thanks." Information on how to access the online portal was sent directly to those individuals and also is available at the DOD facility where the vaccination was received.
