Pioneer Village to host World War II re-enactment

Ozaukee NOW - 5/4/2017

On Saturday, May 20, Ozaukee County Pioneer Village will be the site of the third annual World War II encampment and re-enactment. You will travel back in time while living historians showcase various weaponry, uniforms, vehicles and artifacts from the WWII era.

This year's theme is "The Falaise Gap: An Army on the Run" and will feature major battles at 11 a.m., 1 p.m. and 3 p.m.

Other items of interest include vehicles from the Military Veterans Museum in Oshkosh, USO girls, WACS, 1940s fashion show, victory garden and many more exhibits. The gates open at 10 a.m.

At 7 p.m., a USO-style dance will feature Milwaukee's own, Swing Nouveau, a 17-piece swing band that will play all the war-time favorites. Dance lessons, silent auction and other activities start at 6 p.m. Beer, wine and food will be available throughout the event.

The Ozaukee Honor Wall has the photos and stories of all of the men from Ozaukee County who perished in World War II.

A full day admission (10 a.m. to 10 p.m.), including the dance, is $10 for adults, $8 for students and seniors and $5 for veterans and children 12 and younger. WWII veterans and young children are free. A "dance only" admission is $7. Visit the website for additional information at www.ochs.co.ozaukee.wi.us.

This event is presented by the Ozaukee County Historical Society and the First Allied Airborne Living History Group. Ozaukee County Pioneer Village is located at 4880 Highway I, Saukville, just north of Hawthorne Hills Golf Course.
